Because it bothers me when people can't seem to identify who they are other than by what their prefrence is.
I honesly couldnt care less who you choose to be involved with, mmkay? I am more interested in who you are as a person. :|

Not directed at any particular person, so don't get all butthurt at me if for some bizzare reason, you are offended by this. Herp.

You don't have to fave or comment to use it, if you want to, just do it, man. I don't need to know if you don't want me to. :)

I agree. Although a sexual orientation is definitely part of who someone is, it is not their entire identity.

I do list my orientation on my profile, mainly so people won't assume I'm straight and try to date me. :P

Thank you so much for this. Seeing this and reading the comment section gave my mind peace, because telling people this to their face mostly got me a backslash on how I am a whatever-phobic nice to see that people share this opinion.

I mean yeah, everyone's free to express what they like and whatnot, but when they throw out their sexual preferences like it's the only thing they are about I always get kinda sick.. because there is more to a person than their sexuality, but some people don't seem to get this, like, at all.

Always wanted to say this to most of the people I go to college with...several of the people in the art department in particular. They aren't even the regular type of respectable gay people either...just the stereotypes who won't shut-up about it and act all speshul snowflake about it. Sadly however, I cannot say anything.

Speaking as someone who is gay (not to be like.....HEY THIS IS IMPORTANT) I appreciate the sentiment.

Friendships should be based on mutual respect, not really like.....
OH HEY LOOK ANOTHER GAY LET US CONGREGATE
likewise not a
OH HEY ANOTHER STRAIGHT LET US CONGERGATE

I AM being slightly hypocritical because I do list that information, but I'm not out like. Making friends based on it. Yup.

Good stamp, in conclusion.

It's like digging for rocks in a meadow, I guess.
Some people just don't have the right tools, and some people just don't want to dig down deep enough.

Strange analogy IDEk.

Im straight and a Christian, but I think that if you love someone you should be allowed to be happy and love whoever you want, no one can take that away. Just because your gay or a lesbian doesn't make you wrong, it just means you love someone different then what people are normal too, and that is ok, as long as you are happy, and the one you love loves you back, you are allowed to love whoever you want, and shouldn't feel bad about that.

Well, pretty much a big part of one's person is their orientation. Although I guess no one would enjoy meeting someone who has recently come out and says "Hi, I'm bi / gay / etc." to everyone, it's better for them to have their pride than remaining hidden.

That's all well and good for them, but really its not something that they need to brodcast to the entire world. If they're proud of it, good for them, but it shouldnt be something they introduce themselves with, or dwell on every minute of every day. That's just downright goofy.

Ah, you must have met a queer then (I guess that's their term, not sure). I've spent quite a while with LGBT people and no one but these "girly boys" seem to follow that pattern. Even inside furry meetings they don't seem to talk a lot about their sexuality.

Sadly, it will always be the loudest ones that make up the stereotypes and such.

AH well the thing about that is that there's a lot of varying degrees of that.
Most of those "girly boy" stereotypes come from drag queens, you don't see them a lot outside the stage (or Hollywood, if you're like me, ahah)

The oversexualizing of people is actually something the gay community notoriously has a problem with. There's a lot of work that needs to be done on that issue...it's sad to watch and it can reap awful effects on those people who don't fit the stereotypes.

I go to an art school with a decent sized gay community, and I can't tell you the number of times people like to bring up and "break the news", so to speak, on my sexuality without my permission, especially on public transport around people I'm not sure I can trust(I feel very uncomfortable about doing it seeing as I've been harassed about it a few times)
I've also had people try to befriend me because they've "always wanted a gay best friend"

it's extremely demeaning and I feel like the issue is expanding even as people are growing to be more accepting of gay rights

Just an open forum issue though! Blah blah blah.

A part of a person is just that. You are not your toes, or your heart, or your brain, or what you think about. ^^

Completely agree.
It makes me think of when someone practically introduces themselves with what sexual orientation they are. Good for you, but I don't think that information makes up who you are. I mean in that context, it'd be like me saying "Hi, my name is Chiri, and I'm straight!". Which sounds weird.

Likewise, I don't care what your sexuality is, I see who you are by how you act.

I'm so glad I'm not the only person who thinks this! XD
The only time sexuality matters is when you find a person and think, "I love them so much". And even then, that's not much about sexuality (sort of)

It's pretty much irrelevant to everything ever on the internet unless it comes to dating, dating websites, and anything to do with dating.
Just I mean really.
Also, when people post that information on their profiles, I'm just like, "UM I DONT CARE"
